A “New You” Is Already Underway

Are you caught up in the idea of “New Year, New You?” Or are you feeling guilty that you just don’t have the energy to make a lot of changes, at least not right now. Well, if you’re on team “not right now,” don’t beat yourself up. Here’s some information you might find very interesting. A new you is already underway, and you don’t have to do a thing.

Your body is rebuilding, repairing, and regenerating itself every day of your life! Quite literally you are not the same person you were last week. A “new you” doesn’t only happen as the result of a new year’s resolution or a gym membership. It’s not dependent on you to do something, or anything at all. It’s already, always, in motion.

Your Skin

Approximately every 27 days your skin sheds dead cells and regenerates new cells. It’s a naturally occurring exfoliation of the top layer of skin. It’s important to note that we’re talking about the top layer only because it explains why scars and tattoos (and freckles, age spots, and wrinkles) aren’t affected. Want to speed up the process? Exfoliate more often.

Your Liver

Your liver is one of the most interesting organs you have when it comes to its ability to regenerate. Liver cells known as hepatocytes are replaced roughly every 150 to 500 days. If  you develop any kind of liver disease, generally speaking, the healing process can begin in days and take up to years, depending on the type and severity of the disease, individual health, and lifestyle choices.

But the truly amazing thing is that the liver can actually “grow back.” If you become a living liver donor, (you only need 10% of your liver for it to regenerate to full size, depending on other health issues) you can expect it to take roughly six months to grow back to its full size.

The body is truly amazing!

Your Gut

Here’s one that surprises most people: your intestine or gut is the most highly regenerative organ in the human body. It’s lining, or the epithelium, regenerates every 5 to 7 days. This constant renewal means it always has what it needs to perform its functions of breaking down food, absorbing nutrients, and eliminating waste. In other words, the cells helping you digest food next week don’t even exist yet.

Your Bone Marrow

Every single day, your bone marrow produces billions of new blood cells. These new cells replace the old ones to keep you oxygenated, energized, and strong. That’s how you heal, grow, and recover. For most people, the process never stops. However, you can help it along with proper lifestyle choices including diet, movement, rest, and alignment.

If, for some reason, your bone marrow function is impaired, the process of bone marrow transplantation (the main but not only process of restoration) replaces diseased or damaged bone marrow with healthy stem cells from the individual or a donor.

Already Happening

These are just a few ways that a “new you” is always happening. If you thought that your nails and hair were your only parts that grow, well, now you know that’s not true. Maybe this realization will shift your thinking? Now you realize that developing the lifestyle habits that assist with what your body is already doing…is all you need to do. You don’t need a fresh start. You’ve already got that going on. You just need to provide the right support.

Whether that right support for you is making sure your nervous system is clear and connected through regular chiropractic care, or upping your game when it comes to your 100 Year Lifestyle, there’s a provider near you who can help you on your journey.
